It was a crisp April day in 1997 when I went to visit a friend's booth at our local community food store's Earth Day festivities. There was a joyful color and energy to the scene. Kids in animal costumes with painted faces chased each other between lines of shoppers. Families ate organic lunches on the lawn. Blue Earth balloons bounced in the breeze and a sense of small town fun prevailed. I took many photos and several weeks later selected a handful to explore as compositional reference points for a small group of acrylic paintings.
